What is an Overlay?
When your roofer installs a second set of shingles directly on top of your current roof, this is known as an overlay. While this isn't the most typical roofing option, it does occur occasionally.
It's important to understand that if you're considering an overlay roof, it must be the first time you've had one installed on your property. Only two layers of shingles may be supported by a roof's framework. This is not an option if your home's roof has previously been overlayed.
